Welcome to Gewina!

Who are we?

Gewina is the Belgian-Dutch Society for History of Science and Universities. It was founded in 1913 as a Dutch society for history of science and medicine. At the moment, Gewina has almost 400 members, both professional historians and other people with an interest in the history of science, medicine, and universities in the broadest sense. Twice per year we have a symposium on a specific subject. In Fall 2024 we celebrate our 111-year anniversary.

New members are very welcome!

As a member of Gewina,

you receive invitations to free symposiums, lectures, and excursions

you receive Wonderkamer Magazine (in Dutch) in your letterbox

you support our Open Access Journal for the History of Knowledge

You will be kept informed of the latest news through our digital newsletter (written in Dutch & English) and invited to all the Society’s activities. You can become a member by sending an email with your address to the secretary.

The membership fee is:
€42 per year
€24 per year for students and PhD students

Subscriptions can only be cancelled per year, starting the following year. A subscription for institutes and libraries costs €60 per year.
