The sixth joint meeting of the British Society for the History of Science, the Canadian Society for the History and Philosophy of Science, and the History of Science Society will take place at Keble College in Oxford, UK, on 4-6 July 2008. Previous successful meetings were in Halifax, Nova Scotia (2004), St Louis (2000), Edinburgh (1996), Toronto (1992), and Manchester (1988).
The theme of the meeting will be Connecting Disciplines and it will feature over 350 papers delivered over 3 days in up to 10 parallel sessions. These range chronologically from Ancient Science to the present with a wide thematic and geographical range. The plenary lectures by Prof Simon Schaffer and novelist Iain Pears will be held in the debating chamber of the Oxford Union. There will also be education and outreach activities, a reception at the Museum of the History of Science and a conference dinner in the impressive surroundings of Keble College. A range of visits and walks will allow participants to discover the rich scientific heritage associated with the city of Oxford. The programme will start mid-morning on Friday 4 July and will run until mid-afternoon on 6 July.
